What's the difference?

Porcelain vs Ceramic Tiles

Material Hardness & Strength

  • Porcelain: Crafted from denser clay at higher temperatures, porcelain tiles have a finer, stronger texture. This density makes them more robust and less porous.

  • Ceramic: Made from semi-coarse clay, ceramic tiles are generally softer and more porous than porcelain, better suited to low-traffic areas.

Water Resistance

  • Porcelain: With water absorption of less than 0.5%, porcelain is highly water-resistant. This quality makes it ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor spaces.

  • Ceramic: Ceramic tiles absorb more water, which can lead to staining or damage if used in wet areas.

Durability

  • Porcelain: Due to its hardness, porcelain is exceptionally durable. It withstands heavy foot traffic and is less prone to chipping or cracking.

  • Ceramic: While ceramic tiles are glazed for water resistance, they are not as durable as porcelain. They’re better suited for walls or low-traffic floors.

Application

  • Porcelain: Perfect for high-traffic areas, including commercial spaces. Suitable for indoors and outdoors.

  • Ceramic: Best for indoor use only with minimal traffic.
